On Sunday 29th of June , Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul, history was made in the ancient monastic townland of Kilbroney.

At the request of the Very Reverend Dom Mark-Ephrem M. Nolan, OSB, Superior of the Benedictine Monks, Rostrevor, Most Reverend Dr John McAreavey, Bishop of Dromore, blessed the cornerstone of the future church of Holy Cross Monastery in Kilbroney Valley.

Significantly for the blessing of the cornerstone Christians from all the churches represented in the area came to unite themselves with the Community in prayer.

A scroll which outlined the community's history since its arrival to Northern Ireland, was read by Dom Eric. This was then co-signed by the Bishop and the Superior of the Monastery, before being sealed in a metal container and inserted into the cornerstone.

After the blessing of the site of the future church, the cornerstone was consecrated and anointed with holy oil.
